Retired Officer raises thousands of pounds for police charity
A recently retired Northumbria officer has donated almost £3500 to the Police Treatment Centres after turning his retirement party into a fundraising event.
Geoff Inskip, who earlier this year retired from the force after 30 years service, asked his friends and family to make charitable donations instead of buying him cards and gifts to mark the occasion. He also organised a raffle and auction.
Geoff said: "This was my way of giving something back having used the centres in the past; both are absolutely excellent. I was overwhelmed by the generosity of my colleagues, friends & family. I would like to thank all who contributed and assisted.
Geoff was helped in his fundraising efforts by his wife Deborah. In recognition of her support for the Police Treatment Centres, Deborah's employers, The Royal Bank of Scotland, awarded her £500 to donate to the charity.
The Police Treatment Centres charity provides two centres where serving and retired police officers can receive intensive physiotherapy, recuperation and complementary treatments following an injury or illness.
Gemma Pettman, Publicity Officer for the Police Treatment Centres said: "The amount of money Geoff and Deborah have raised reflects the energy and enthusiasm they put into their event. We are so grateful for their support."
"It costs almost £4 million each year to run our centres and while most of this comes from regular donations made by serving officers, extra donations are vital to enable us to continue to provide this facility to ill and injured police officers."
If you would like to support the Police Treatment Centres by way of a weekly donation from your pay, please speak to the Force Payroll department.
