Officer's cash boost for police charity
A police officer from Northumbria is using his retirement party as a way to raise money for the Police Treatment Centres.
Constable Geoff Inskip, who retires from the force in June after 30 years service, is asking his friends and family to make donations to the charity instead of buying him cards and gifts to mark the occasion. In addition to this Geoff has organised a raffle which will be drawn at his retirement party in May. Tickets cost just 50 pence each and prizes up for grabs include a £250 voucher for Slaters menswear, a luxury hotel and dinner package, and a digital camera.
Geoff said: "I have been to Castlebrae, the Police Treatment Centre in Scotland, twice in recent years and was so well looked after that I wanted to do my bit to raise money for the charity. I held a similar fundraiser when I turned fifty and was able to raise thousands of pounds for a local charity. I hope colleagues in Northumbria and from further afield will support me."
The Police Treatment Centres charity provides two centres where serving and retired police officers can receive intensive physiotherapy, recuperation and complementary treatments following an injury or illness.
Gemma Pettman, Publicity Officer for the Police Treatment Centres said, "It costs almost £4 million each year to run our centres and while most of this comes from regular donations made by serving officers, extra funding is vital to enable us to continue to provide this facility to ill and injured police officers."
